I’m going to tell you a story. My Gran sadly passed away back in February 2017 and her absence is still hard to deal with. I am left with LOTS of wonderful memories of her and I will treasure the good times we shared always. For a little while it was difficult to look at any photos of her without that immense feeling of sadness creeping up to form a big lump in my throat. Somehow though, I have now managed to come to terms with the loss of my gran and seeing her in a picture actually helps. I remember her showing me some of her wedding photographs a few years ago and it felt really lovely to relive her wedding day with her through the pages of her album. She talked me through how she felt in each image and told me who was who when I didn’t recognise the faces of the people in her images. Knowing I am a wedding photographer, I think it gave her great pleasure to show off the few images she had in her album. When I asked where the original negatives were she had no idea.
This got me thinking and here are my thoughts ..
This is the equivalent to my couples not knowing where their USB’s are forty years down the line or perhaps not even having the technology to read those digital files anymore. I tied the knot ten years ago and my images were supplied on a CD and I no longer have a disc drive so, if I hadn’t made duplicate copies onto a hard drive, accessing those images could be tricky today. The digital age that we live in is fast moving so who knows where we might be in forty years time.
On that note, I‘d always always always recommend having your wedding snaps printed. A photo book, album or even individual prints will never be affected by the ever changing developments of the digital age. The tangible element of having your images in the safe keeping of your hands will ensure that you can always look back on your wedding day with ease and pleasure. It really is priceless seeing your wedding images displayed in the format that they were originally designed for … i.e. to be printed!
I completely understand however that planning a wedding can be an expensive affair and the added cost of an album perhaps isn’t always at the top of your list of priorities when in those early stages. Do not despair though, I bring you my new soft cover photo book as an alternative to those more costly, ‘top end’ photo albums. They’re super easy to order and all you’d need to do is share around 100 images with me via your online gallery and I’d do the rest. The photo books are £185.
Please do consider placing an order! Your wedding would look amazing ‘in print’ and your images deserve to be seen by all those future generations to follow. I know I will treasure my Gran’s wedding album always!
